Fjordland - Myrdal, Flam, Gudvangen
From Bergen onwards, we travelled towards Myrdal in anticipation of the majestic fjords which we had heard so much of back at home - this was the very first time that I actually had the chance to experience snow up close! Here, a white, freezing morning at Finse.
And this was what greeted our eyes as we awoke from deep slumber - you haven't seen beauty till you've seen Norway. The picturesque views are unparalleled compared to - dare I say it - anywhere else. Unspeakable, indescribable magnificence.
Therein exists a sheer, unmistakable element of remoteness about Norwegian scenery - yawning landscapes of tundra, frozen lakes, gnarled trees stripped bare by wintry gales of season past - and not a trace of man's existence, as if the snow had blanketed all of the land, seas and skies in a flurry of white rage.
Arriving at Myrdal was just about magical - it's a train station nestled right in the middle of a valley, with towering peaks surrounding it, humble houses situated near the tracks.
I touched snow.
This is Flam - the lowest point on the beautiful Flamsbana railway - and it is fantastic!
Possibly the shot that encapsulates what we felt about Norway - surreal.
