Rewriting the Covenant

fjordman has a brilliant article that needs to be read by everyone (ff at Joshuapundit has linked it as well) - that is, those who believe they are witnessing the slow and self-flallegating punishment European governments are inflicting on themselves by choosing to accommodate political Islam and sharia in Western codes of jurisprudence, and pandering to transnational progressivist ideals like multiculturalism because we're one big happy family.
Newsflash: big, happy family members don't consciously kill each other and justify those acts as their religious duty. And right now, Europe is facing an existential crisis that has been festering deep within the continent, disguised under the facade of assimilation and multiculturalism. The infringing of jihad on freedom of speech and civil liberties has only grown ever more problematic as governments become ever more sensitised to accusations of racism, bigotry and anti-Islamic hatred; when an Islamist terrorist plunges his dagger into the heart of a European, the G-man hurriedly rushes to the side - not to apprehend the terrorist - to muffle the screams of the bleeding man. That is the poisoned state of the European psyche now. As fjordman opines [all emphases added]:Pierre Schori, Minister for immigration, during a parliamentary debate in 1997 said that: "Racism and xenophobia should be banned and chased [away]," and that one should not accept "excuses, such as that there were flaws in the immigration and refugee policies." In other words: It should be viewed as a crime for the indigenous population not to assist in wiping themselves out. The state is turned into an enemy of the very population it is supposed to protect. Swedes pay some of the highest tax rates in the world, and for this they get runaway crime rates and a government that is actively hostile to their interests.
Shouldn't this Minister for Immigration be charged with dereliction of duty? Here he is shirking responsibility for his nation's immigration and refugee policies, attempting rather feebly to stem any aspersions that could be cast about his competence - or lack of common sense, really - in implementing these disastrous policies. I would like to pose a question to mr. schori here: have you considered why xenophobia ever took root in Sweden? The Swedes are peace-loving people, yet I wonder why they would be so fearful of their Muslim brethren. Could it be that Muslims have been consistently being identified as proponents of a phenomenon called Islamofascism? Think about it, schori.
fjordman hits home with that argument: since when does the government take it upon itself to choose to abandon the social contract, that sacred covenant between the citizens who created it in the first place with the intention of devolving just sufficient power to a sovereign that would ensure the preservation of life, liberty and property of its citizens in exchange for their support - which could theoretically be rescinded at any moment they deem the sovereign lacking in competence, incorruptibility or will to protect them?Exit the People's Home of Sweden is a book from 2005 about immigration and the Swedish welfare state model. According to the authors, the Multicultural elites see themselves first of all as citizens of the world. In order to emphasize and accentuate diversity, everything that smacks of "native culture" is deliberately disparaged. Opposition to this policy is considered a form of racism:
The work of transnational progressivism again at work - aiming for that supposedly noble-sounding objective of equality for all, homogeneity of cultures - and this can only be accomplished through the transcending of national borders and sovereignties. Any nation that fails to adhere to this new transnational world order is deemed to have violated some obscure, self-defined creed of mankind (and pray tell, where is this creed? In the UN Charter? Geneva Conventions? Peace of Westphalia?) and therefore justifies the subversion of national sovereignty and jurisprudence to these self-proclaimed codes of equality.
Transnational Progressivism lionises the dogmatic agenda of favouring the underdog against the hegemon - and obviously here its adherents view Western culture as "hegemonic" - and equality in their terms simply means promoting the ascendancy of the underdog culture regardless of moral standards (because cultural and moral relativism just explains away everything, right?) while denigrating and desecrating the "dominant" culture. Islam has stuck by its principles for all these centuries and is unwilling to budge from its consecrated throne, and so Progressivists would rather we degrade our cultures to achieve equality with that of Islamic society. How noble of us to make that sacrifice, abandoning all social and civilisational advances that our forefathers gave up their lives for.Why is this pan-European EU dictatorship still functioning? Because seeing is believing. Most Europeans still don't know that EU leaders are using their money without their consent to merge Europe with the Arab world because their media don't tell them this. Due to the common Euro currency and the lack of national borders they can move around most of Europe at ease, which seems convenient. They don't physically see, however, that the EU has also usurped the power of their national parliaments. The latter appear to be working just as always, but have now been reduced to implementing the policies of unelected Eurocrats.
And the EU has been turned into one giant manipulable tool of the Transnationals, a mega-project that seeks to perpetuate memes of global warming and multiculturalism. European leaders just don't get it when their citizens reject the Constitution time and again - they have sought to rename it, make tiny amendments in hopes that people won't see the similarities. So they've decided: why not do away with referendums? Just shove the entire Constitution in all of its incomprehensibility down the throats of the people - that'll teach them to protest!
Rolling back on democracy, one of the public's channels through which to express discontent with its government is a serious attack on Western civilisation and its creed. Justifying the imposition of policies decided by the EU on states by working around their governments and circumventing sovereign channels of eliciting support is just as slippery a slope as simply acquiescing in blissful ignorance that the EU knows best for all nations - when it really is solely interested in ensuring its survival as a transnational project by breaking down the Nation-States and render them ever more dependent on the regional concentration of power that resides in the EU itself.
The recent uprisings in Utrecht has compelled fjordman to suggest something very disturbing:Perhaps the native Dutch in Utrecht thought that hey, we are quiet and peaceful and yet we get only contempt from our so-called leaders. Muslims burn stuff and get concessions. Perhaps we should start burning stuff, too. What have we got to lose? We're already losing our country.
And an article in Parameters addresses the Hobbesian notion of self-preservation - raymond millen makes a salient point regarding this breach of covenant [all emphases added]:Hobbes believes that the state of nature is a state of war because no common power exists to keep man’s tendency for conflict in check. Hobbes makes the point that battles and actual fighting do not define war; rather, it is the environment of insecurity in which “every man is enemy to every man.” Under these conditions, all normal activities of commerce, social and cultural progress, and the pursuits of the arts and sciences cease. Stability is replaced by “continual fear and danger of violent death, and the life of man, solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short.”The system of law and order no longer has any meaning. “Where there is no common power, there is no law; where no law, no injustice. Force and fraud are in war the two cardinal virtues. Justice and injustice are none of the faculties neither of the body, nor mind.” In short, traditional norms and institutions no longer have their predictive influence on citizen behavior.
The central theme both fjordman and millen are focusing on is this fundamental breach of covenant: the government has proven that it can no longer guarantee the security of life, liberty and property for its citizens, and so the latter reverts to the state of nature to fend for himself. The only currency that is recognised in that state of war is force, and perhaps it will only be then that European governments will regret not applying it when they still had the monopoly of force within the Nation-State - it will be too late then, when jihadists and their constituencies run rampant, installing sharia law and totalitarianism, executing anyone who dares goes against them.
By then, the covenant being in shambles, the predicament will be augmented by the fact that the government now surreptitiously shifts its duty of protecting the citizens to that of protecting the jihadists and their Progressivist collaborators, all the while maintaining the guise of a covenant still existing by demanding taxes among other obligatory duties of a citizen that he chooses to accept when he decides to be part of the Nation-State. No, he didn't sign up for being an insignificant member of a regional dictatorship, and so he has every right to reject the covenant and refuse to fulfil any obligations to the state. If enough people do that, the state will cease to exist. If the government is incapable of preserving the covenant, it will cease to exist. That has always been the power of the citizen, and the duty that is assigned to him regardless of any external restrictions placed on his civil liberties and rights. That is his inalienable right.
fjordman concurs by concluding that:Europe is being targeted for deliberate colonization by Muslim states, and with coordinated efforts aimed at our Islamization and the elimination of our freedoms. We are being subject to a foreign invasion, and aiding and abetting a foreign invasion in any way constitutes treason. If non-Europeans have the right to resist colonization and desire self-determination then Europeans have that right, too. And we intend to exercise it.

Also remember that beyond Congress we are faced, increasingly, with a Court system that is going Transnational. Plus folks trying to misread the 14th Amendment out of context of what it was supposed to fix: the freed slaves of Amendment 13.
This noxious brew at home is eroding the Nation and Europe is showing us what that will mean in 10 years... And with Hezbollah, al Qaeda and Hamas in S. America we, too, will get targeted by Muslims. Ones that are ethnically Hispanic. Already there are areas in the US where it is Spanish Only... what happens when those start to become Islamic, too?
